A school’s hair-razing achievement: Above, delighted students at Sparks Elementary School in La Puente prepare for Principal Gregory O’Brien to have his head shaved. O’Brien was making good on his promise to sport a bald pate if the school attained a score of 855 on the state Academic Performance Index. The campus went one better and scored 856.

Forest Lake Elementary School students learn French on SCETV

Check this out! This 1967 article from "The State" newspaper featured my elementary school, Forest Lake, learning French via South Carolina ETV (Educational Television). My classmate’s mom just found this article as they were preparing for a move. I’m not in the article but it’s so cool to see a reminder of those fond memories. It was also the same year that the South Carolina Arts Commission was created. Forest Lake Elementary School in Columbia is now a Magnet School for Technology as well as a NASA Explorer School.
