Congrats to Spartanburg friend and Converse College professor, Andrew Blanchard, for making this list!! He was one of five South Carolina artists to be honored in this 41 - 100 online list. The top 40 artists will be listed in the print issue that was scheduled to hit the newsstands on March 1st.

JoeysBrainWork: Hub-bub has brought happiness to my life.
About a month ago I received a fundraising letter from Hub-bub: Spartanburg’s cultural epicenter. I put the flyer and letter in a stack of other mail that I planned to look over eventually. What I should have done was pull out my checkbook right then.
I moved to Spartanburg in 2003 and it…

Home for the Holidays: A Victorian Christmas
The Hampton Heights Neighborhood Association is hosting “Home for the Holidays: A Victorian Christmas” December 1, 2011 from 5:00pm to 8:30pm at the Arthur Irwin home, 269 West Hampton Avenue, in Spartanburg’s Hampton Heights Historic District. The Irwin home went up in flames on June 18, 2010 and destroyed the roof, attics and tower. I didn’t know the owners, Jim Newcome and Vivian B. Fisher, but they are part of my extended network of friends. I recall watching the WSPA-TV footage and witnessed the anguish expressed by their close friends and neighbors on Facebook.
Join the Association tonight and celebrate the restoral of the neighborhood’s flagship residence! Tickets are $25 per person and include a tour of the home, hors d’oeuvres and wine. For tickets visit www.hamptonheights.org or visit Upstate Forever at 100 East Main Street Spartanburg, SC.
LOOK at this Spartanburg Herald-Journal article, Association photos and WSPA footage:

AFTER

Take a look at the WSPA-TV news video and you’ll appreciate both the loss and the excitement in having this historical home restored to its original grandeur.

Amy Wood @TVAmy: Trey Pennington's Light
We basked in it, we fed off of it. Trey’s light was powerful, inspirational, sustaining. That is why the darkness is so hard to take right now. And we want to DO something. But what?
Leave it to Trey’s tribe to create the Trey’s Light team. They’re ready to walk October 9th and raise awareness…

Amy Wood @TVAmy: Suicide - stop it
Suicide rolled over my life, like a massive tsunami Sunday. Someone I thought could never truly lose hope, did.
Just before Trey Pennington took his life, he sent me a message, asking that if I ever told a story about him, “make it a good one.”
I would not see that message until dear friends on…
